Red is the color of passion. Our blood is red and so is the heart. The reddest fruits will be ripe and edible, red flushes our cheeks at the sight of a crush. We "see red" when we become impassioned, and the color red gives the flags of many nations a firey prestige.

So it's fitting for red to symbolize love on Valentine's day, inspiring the hopes and intensity of affection across the world.

WHY ROSE?

The rose was the favored flower of Venus, the Goddess of love, so it's fitting that these two elements came together to create the tradition of giving red roses on Valentine's Day.

For the past 5 years, rose gold has gained massive popularity for its warm, romantic tint.

Rose Gold looks great with every skin color, since the color blends more softly than white gold or yellow gold. The pink tone is also considered more feminine, with pink symbolizing girlhood and motherhood.

The alloy was popular in the US in the 40's/50's and it has always been Russia's only gold export.

For 18 karat rose gold, typically about 4% silver is added to 75% gold and 21% copper to give a rose color. 14 karat red gold is often found in the Middle East and contains 41.67% copper.

WHY VALENTINE?
There is a lot of dispute about the origin of the day, but out of our research, this story made the most sense.

Saint Valentine performed secret marriages for soldiers in spite of Emperor Claudius II in 270AD. At this time, the Roman empire was crumbling, and in a decision of desperation, the Emperor commanded that no men should marry. He felt that married men made poor soldiers because they were busy thinking about their families and not their duties to the nation.

Of course, love conquers all, and so it wasn't long before the rise of Saint Valentine and his secret marriages of young lovers in the shadows of the church.

And as one would expect, the Roman Emperor didn't take very kindly to this. He imprisoned Valentine, and during his imprisonment, the saint fell in love with his jailor's daughter.

On the day of his execution, he requested something to write with, and made a letter to his love signed, "From your Valentine."

Thus the legend was born.
